Charlotte Figi’s story is woven with struggle, courage, and hope, a legacy that transforms lives to this day.

What began as a fight for a child’s life became a catalyst for nationwide change—leading to the passage of two landmark Farm Bills and compassionate laws across the country, which expanded access to a life-changing plant compound for thousands.

Charlotte’s impact reaches far beyond the movement she inspired. Today, her presence is felt in the voices she amplified, the conversations she started, and the families who finally found an answer.

Charlotte’s Breakthrough

Born in 2006, Charlotte Figi faced catastrophic epileptic seizures before she was even six months old. Doctors at first said it was nothing to worry about—until it happened again. And again. And again.

By the time she was five, Charlotte Figi was in hospice care. 

Paige and Matt Figi did what any parents would do. They kept fighting. Looking for alternatives, Paige met one of our founders, and Charlotte, with written permission from her neurologist and pediatrician, first used the extract now called Charlotte’s Web™ Original Formula.

After taking the extract, created from hemp high in CBD and low in THC, Charlotte’s quality of life began to change for the better. 

A Little Girl, A Big Impact

The news of Charlotte’s progress spread quickly to Heather Jackson, whose child Zaki became the second to benefit from the extract. One story led to another, which led to another, and another. 

Charlotte’s light guided many families, amplified by American neurosurgeon, medical reporter, and writer Dr. Sanjay Gupta. In August 2013, CNN aired Weed 1, which explored Charlotte’s incredible breakthrough response to the full-spectrum hemp extract. 

In March 2014, Weed 2 aired to follow up on Charlotte, and discuss the tremendous impact CBD could have on other children. By the end of 2014, 15,000 families waited for bottles of our founder's Original Formula. 

All the while, Paige Figi and Heather Jackson founded a nonprofit named Realm of Caring to provide support to families and showcase CBD’s growing role in pediatric care. From 2012 to 2015, Realm of Caring helped 500+ families move to CO to access CBD.

A Legacy That Lives On

Charlotte passed away on April 7, 2020, at just 13 years old. Her memory lives on through her family, her friends, Charlotte’s Web™, and many children whose lives she forever changed. 

Dr. Sanjay Gupta once more paid tribute to Charlotte, celebrating her inspirational life once again. Just two weeks later, Colorado Governor Jared Polis declared April 7th as Charlotte Figi Day, ensuring her legacy is forever recognized.

The Charlotte Figi Family Grant Program is built on one idea: wellness shouldn’t be a privilege.

Each year, on Charlotte Figi Day, we increase the number of grant recipients, providing families in need with a year’s supply of Charlotte’s Web™ products to support their health and wellness.

Today, Realm of Caring is a global leader in cannabis research, education, and support, serving clients in 68 countries—from infants to seniors—helping them navigate the world of cannabinoids.

Charlotte’s Web™ is proud to stand with Realm of Caring, having donated over $3 million since 2018, along with ongoing product donations, to continue illuminating the path for others.
